Lang Lang recently released his new album in the U.S. entitled “The Magic of Lang Lang.” Within two weeks, he showed his magic by his consummate musical performance that the latest album has reached No. 1 on the Billboard Classical Chart. Before that, Lang Lang was able to stop the heavy traffic in Times Square when five giant screens carried a performance by his Yellow River Piano Concerto on October 25th, 2007.
However, that is not what I am trying to say about Lang Lang’s magic here. What I really want to shine his magic is all about the 50th Grammy Awards. The 25-year-old prodigy was specially honored by the Recording Academy, and also nominated for Best Classical Instrumental Soloist(s) Performance (with Orchestra). Although he lost the award which was won by the famous concert violinist James Ehnes, Lang Lang’s play, “Rhapsody in Blue” with jazzman Herbie Hancock, impressed everyone in Staples Center and won their applause.
So where is the magic? Chinese even Asian’s highly concentrated attention to the Grammy Award. It’s brought by Lang Lang. I know Some Chinese people paid attention to Grammy because of Amy Winehouse, the drug-trouble girl who dominated the Grammys with five awards, which is a big surprise to public. Also I am pretty sure that more Chinese people showed interests in Grammy because of Lang Lang’s nomination.
I believe the number of British audiences for Grammy is soaring this year as well. Purposely or not, the Grammy Awards spread itself in the world by making its nominees’ list more and more diverse.
